The AI step takes the product title from the trigger and uses it to create a product description. The default prompt is set to "Write a brief product description for a product called [product title]" but you can customize this prompt to include specific instructions about tone, length, key features to highlight, or brand voice. You can also adjust the temperature setting (currently set to 1) to control how creative or conservative the AI responses are.

Update Product

Why this matters: This step saves the AI-generated description back to your Shopify product, completing the automation loop. Without this step, the description would be generated but never applied to your store.

This action takes the description created by the AI and updates the product's body HTML field in Shopify with the new content. The step automatically targets the correct product using the ID captured in the trigger step, so each description gets applied to the right product. The update happens immediately after the AI generates the content, making your product ready for customers.

Frequently asked questions

Can I customize the writing style or length of the descriptions?
Yes, you can edit the prompt in Step 2 to specify exactly what you want. For example, change it to "Write a compelling 2-paragraph product description for [product title] that emphasizes benefits over features and uses an enthusiastic but professional tone."
Will this overwrite existing product descriptions if I edit them later?
No, this workflow only runs when a product is first created. If you manually edit a description after the workflow runs, it won't be overwritten. The trigger only fires on new product creation, not updates.
What happens if the AI generates a description I don't like?
You can manually edit any description in your Shopify admin after it's generated. You can also improve future results by refining the AI prompt in Step 2 to be more specific about what you want, or adjust the temperature setting to make responses more or less creative. Additionally, add an Approval step before the generated description is added to the product in Shopify.
