Logging new Shopify orders to a Google Sheet is easy, but the sheet goes stale the moment someone edits an order in Shopify admin: a corrected shipping address, a new tag, an added note, a refund. This workflow watches for order updates, finds the row that already holds that order by its order ID, and rewrites it with the current details, so the sheet always matches Shopify instead of only showing each order as it was when it was placed.

How it works

4 steps to keep every order row in your sheet matching Shopify

App connector: Shopify • Time to complete: 1 minute

Start whenever an existing Shopify order changes, for example a new shipping address, a tag or note added in admin, a refund, or a change in payment or fulfillment status.

App connector: Google Sheets • Time to complete: 1 minute

Search the order sheet's Order ID column for the ID of the order that changed and return the matching row, including its row number.

App connector: Filter • Time to complete: 1 minute

Stop if no row was found, so the workflow never overwrites the wrong row. Orders that were never logged are left to the new-order workflow.

Update the matching row number with the order's current values: customer name and email, shipping address, financial status, fulfillment status, tags, note, total price, and the time it was last updated. Leave the Order ID column unchanged.

FAQs

Will this add new orders to my sheet too?

No. It only updates rows that already exist. Pair it with the Send Shopify Orders to Google Sheets template, which adds a row for each new order, and this workflow keeps those rows current.

What counts as an order change?

Shopify's Order Updated event fires for most changes to an order, including address and note edits, tags, refunds, and payment or fulfillment status changes. Every time it fires, the row is rewritten with the order's current values.

What happens if the order isn't in the sheet yet?

The filter step stops the run, so nothing is overwritten. If you want missing orders added instead, swap the filter for a Paths step that adds a new row when no match is found.
