Log Shopify Orders From Email Campaigns to Google Sheets

4 min setup
No coding required
Runs automatically

Your email platform and Shopify rarely agree on how much revenue email drove. This workflow checks every paid Shopify order for email UTM parameters in the landing page URL, tags the orders that came from an email click, and logs each one to a Google Sheet with the campaign name and order total, so you get an order-level record of email revenue you can filter, sum, and audit.

How it works

4 steps to see exactly which Shopify orders came from your emails

Shopify logo icon

Shopify Order Paid (Trigger)

App connector: Shopify • Time to complete: 1 minute

Run each time a Shopify order is paid, so only real revenue is counted and unpaid or abandoned orders are skipped.

Filter

App connector: Filter • Time to complete: 1 minute

Continue only if the order's Landing Site contains utm_medium=email (the default medium Klaviyo and most email platforms set when UTM tracking is on). Edit the text to match your own UTM setup.

Shopify Order Add Tag

App connector: Shopify • Time to complete: 1 minute

Add the tag email-revenue to the order so email-driven orders can be filtered in the Shopify admin orders list.

Google Sheets Add Row

App connector: Google Sheets • Time to complete: 1 minute

Add a row with the order date, order name, customer email, order total, currency, discount codes, the full Landing Site URL, and the utm_campaign value pulled from it.

FAQs

Why doesn't my sheet match the revenue Klaviyo reports?

Klaviyo credits an order to an email if the customer opened or clicked it within its attribution window, even if they came back later by typing your URL. This workflow only counts orders where the visit that ended in a purchase started from an email link, so it reports a lower, stricter number. Keeping both is useful: the gap shows how much of your platform's figure is assisted rather than direct.

What if my email links don't use utm_medium=email?

Change the filter to whatever your links carry, such as utm_source=klaviyo or utm_source=shopify_email. Click one of your own email links and look at the URL in your browser to see the exact parameters.

Will this catch SMS revenue too?

Not as written. Add a second filter path for utm_medium=sms, or loosen the filter to match any utm_medium, and log the medium as its own column.

Personalize this template

Customize this workflow even further:

Add a weekly email revenue summary
Add a SUMIFS formula tab to the sheet that totals the order total column by week and by utm_campaign, so the report updates itself as rows arrive.
Tag the customer too
Add a Customer Add Tag step so customers who have bought from an email can be segmented later.
