Flag New Shopify Orders Shipping to an Address Used in Recent Orders

6 min setup
No coding required
Runs automatically

Duplicate orders, reseller abuse and some fraud show up as several orders going to the same address. This workflow checks each new Shopify order against your orders from the last 60 days, and when the shipping address matches an earlier order, it tags the new order and posts the match in Slack so someone can review it before it ships.

How it works

6 steps to catch repeat-address orders before they ship

Shopify logo icon

Shopify Order Created (Trigger)

App connector: Shopify • Time to complete: 1 minute

Runs for every new Shopify order.

Shopify Get List of Orders

App connector: Shopify • Time to complete: 1 minute

Get orders created in the last 60 days, any status.

Loop

App connector: Loop • Time to complete: 1 minute

Run the next step once for each earlier order.

Filter

App connector: Filter • Time to complete: 1 minute

Continue only when the earlier order isn't the new order itself and its shipping address line 1 and postal code match the new order's (compare lowercased text so capitalization doesn't matter).

FAQs

Can it match orders by credit card number?

No. Shopify never shares full card numbers with apps, only details like the card brand and last four digits. Those can be a weak extra signal, but many customers share them, so use them to support a review, not to block an order.

How many tasks does it use?

Each new order uses a task to list recent orders plus about one per order compared, because the loop checks them one by one. A store with 1,000 orders in 60 days uses around 1,000 tasks per new order, so shorten the window or limit the list (for example to orders from the same postal code or country) if volume is high.

Does a matching address mean the order is fraud?

No. Repeat customers and shared offices match too. Treat the tag as a reason to look, and compare the customer names, emails and order history before canceling anything.
