What if my partner's API uses a username and password instead of an API key?

Use MESA's API step with Basic Auth or OAuth instead of API Key. The rest of the workflow stays the same.

What happens if the partner's API returns an error?

The task fails in MESA and the order isn't tagged, so it's easy to spot and re-run once the problem is fixed.

Can tracking numbers come back into Shopify?

Yes, with a second workflow. On a schedule, ask the partner's API for shipped orders, then create a fulfillment with the tracking number on the matching Shopify order.
