How it works

Follow these 2 simple steps to start automatically creating Shopify orders from your Square sales

Order Created

App connector: Square • Time to complete: 0 minutes (Auto-configured)
Why this matters: This step monitors your Square account for new orders and kicks off the entire workflow whenever a customer completes a purchase.

The trigger connects to your Square account and checks for new orders every hour using Square's API. Once connected, it automatically captures order details including line items, pricing, discounts, and customer information without any manual input required. When a new order is detected, it passes all the order data to the next step to begin the Shopify order creation process. This runs continuously in the background once activated.

Create Order

App connector: Shopify • Time to complete: 0 minutes (Auto-configured)
Why this matters: This step takes the Square order data and creates a corresponding order in your Shopify admin, maintaining consistent records across both platforms.

The action maps Square order information to Shopify's order format, automatically setting the fulfillment status to "fulfilled" since the sale already happened in Square. It transfers product names, quantities, and pricing from each Square line item into Shopify line items, while also copying any discount amounts applied. The order appears in your Shopify admin with "Square" as the source name, making it easy to identify cross-platform orders. All field mappings are pre-configured to match the data structure between both systems.

Frequently asked questions

Will orders created from Square affect my Shopify inventory?
No, the workflow is configured with "inventory_behaviour: bypass" which means Shopify won't deduct inventory when these orders are created. Since the sale already happened in Square, this prevents double-counting inventory deductions.
Can I customize which Square order details get transferred to Shopify?
Yes, you can modify the field mappings to include additional Square data like customer information, order notes, or custom attributes. The current setup focuses on core order details but can be expanded based on your needs.
What happens if the same Square order gets processed multiple times?
The workflow will create duplicate Shopify orders since there's no built-in deduplication. Consider adding a condition step to check for existing Shopify orders with the same Square order ID before creating new ones.
