Add a Placeholder Image to New Shopify Products

This trigger activates whenever you create a new product in your Shopify admin, whether you add it manually, import it via CSV, or create it through apps. The step captures the new product's basic details and immediately passes the product ID to the next step for further inspection. No configuration is needed - it monitors all new products across your entire store automatically.

This step pulls the full product record from Shopify using the product ID from the trigger, giving the workflow access to all product data including the current images array. It automatically retrieves information like product title, description, variants, and most importantly, any existing images attached to the product. This data gets passed to the filter step to check whether images are present or missing.

The filter examines the images array from the retrieved product data and only allows the workflow to continue when the first image source is empty. This "is empty" comparison acts as a safety gate, ensuring you only add placeholder images to products that truly need them. If a product already has images, the workflow stops here and takes no further action.

You'll configure the placeholder image URL in the "src" field under the images section. Paste the direct link to your placeholder image file - this could be hosted on your Shopify files, a CDN, or any reliable image hosting service. The step creates a new images array with your placeholder as the first image, which becomes the featured product image in your store. Make sure your image URL ends with a file extension like .jpg or .png and is publicly accessible.
