How it works

Follow these 4 simple steps to send personalized thank-you postcards when your Shopify orders are delivered

Fulfillment Status is Delivered

App connector: Tracktor • Time to complete: 0 minutes (Auto-configured)
Why this matters: This trigger monitors your Tracktor fulfillment data and starts the workflow the moment an order's status changes to "delivered," ensuring postcards are sent at the perfect time when customers have their products in hand.

This step automatically watches for delivery confirmations from Tracktor and captures the order ID when a fulfillment status updates to "delivered." No configuration is needed - MESA connects to your existing Tracktor integration and listens for these delivery events. When triggered, it passes the order ID to the next steps so they can retrieve the full customer and order details needed for the postcard.

Retrieve Order

App connector: Shopify • Time to complete: 0 minutes (Auto-configured)
Why this matters: This step fetches all the customer and order information needed to personalize the postcard message and addressing, including the customer's name, shipping address, and order details.

The step automatically pulls the complete order record from Shopify using the order ID captured by the trigger. It retrieves customer details like first name for personalization, shipping address for postcard delivery, and order information that can be referenced in your thank-you message. This data gets passed to the postcard creation step where it populates the recipient information and personalizes the message content.

Retrieve Shop

App connector: Shopify • Time to complete: 0 minutes (Auto-configured)
Why this matters: This step gathers your store's information (name, return address) so the postcard includes proper branding and return address details, making it look professional and legitimate.

This step automatically fetches your Shopify store details including your shop name, business address, and contact information. The shop name gets used in the postcard message personalization and as the return address name, while your store's address becomes the return address on the postcard. This ensures customers know the postcard came from your business and provides proper return addressing for postal delivery.

Send Postcard

App connector: Thanks.io • Time to complete: 3 minutes
Why this matters: This final step creates and sends the physical postcard using all the collected order and shop data, completing the customer experience with a tangible thank-you gesture.

This step sends the actual postcard through Thanks.io using the customer and shop information from previous steps. You'll need to configure the postcard size (4x6 or 6x9), upload a front image URL for your postcard design, and select a handwriting style for the message. The message template automatically personalizes with the customer's first name and your shop name, while the recipient address uses the order's shipping details and return address uses your shop information.

Make it your own

Customize this workflow even further:

Add conditional logic for order values
Only send postcards for orders above a certain dollar amount, or send different postcard designs based on order size or product categories.
Include product-specific messaging
Customize the postcard message based on what the customer purchased, such as care instructions for clothing or usage tips for electronics.
Store postcard data for tracking
Save details about sent postcards (recipient, date, order value) in MESA Tables to track your postcard campaign performance and ROI.
Chain follow-up communications
Connect additional steps to send email surveys, loyalty program invitations, or SMS promotions a few weeks after the postcard is delivered.

Frequently asked questions

Will postcards be sent for international orders?
Yes, Thanks.io supports international postcard delivery to most countries. However, delivery times and costs vary by destination, and you should verify that your return address format meets international postal requirements.
What happens if the shipping address is incomplete or invalid?
The workflow will attempt to send the postcard with the available address information, but Thanks.io may reject postcards with insufficient addressing. Consider adding address validation steps before the Send Postcard action for higher delivery success rates.
Can I preview what the postcard will look like before it gets sent?
Thanks.io doesn't provide live previews through MESA, but you can preview handwriting styles and postcard layouts in your Thanks.io dashboard. Test the workflow with a sample order to yourself first to see the final result before going live.
